TJ JourneyAssist brings those pieces into one private, living record, where a participant can see them together with the perspective time can bring.
The experience moves from a whole-life view to an era, year, day, conversation, or piece of evidence. Evidence adds context and can correct the record without receiving the last word about what a life meant.

WHY THIS MATTERS
A life rarely arrives as a story.
It arrives as thousands of small records created for different reasons by people who saw only one part of it. An email remembers the work. A photograph remembers the room. A medical record remembers a finding. A text thread remembers what was said in the moment. The person remembers what it felt like.
Some records confirm. Some contradict. Some correct a date. Some reveal that a strength, a struggle, or a relationship pattern existed long before the person had words for it. Some are simply missing.
JourneyAssist is built around a living life review: an assisted journey through the participant's own records, memories, and reflections.
That method keeps source, memory, perspective, and meaning distinct and reviewable while bringing them close enough for connections to appear.
WHAT THE FOUNDING REVIEW REVEALED
An inner journey can be the beginning of reclaiming a life.
The founding life review shaped the belief that reclaiming a life from trauma and chaos can begin with an honest look at what happened, what was done, what choices followed, what was believed then, and what is understood now.
That reflection can matter in a private record, with a trusted person, or with the Companion inside JourneyAssist. The pathway should make room to look without forcing a verdict before the whole life is in view.
Reflection is not one prompt or a polished summary. It can take time, and it can hurt. The participant controls the pace and can pause. Compassion for what cannot be changed does not erase responsibility; it can make an honest encounter more possible.
The goal is not a perfect record or a verdict on the person who lived it. It is a more honest place from which to look and perhaps begin again.
THE PIECES PEOPLE ALREADY HAVE
Old does not mean unusable.
The pathway can begin with records scattered across phones, computers, boxes, cloud accounts, old hard drives, and other people's memories. Preserve the original, make a usable copy when possible, and keep each source's limits visible.
Messages and conversations
Apple Messages and iMessage exports, SMS and legacy phone backups, Google Voice, Messenger exports, workplace chat, and other conversation histories.
A message can return a thought, relationship, conflict, or ordinary day to its original moment.
Email and offline mailfiles
Individual .eml messages, mailbox exports, Gmail or Takeout archives, Outlook .pst files, IBM or Lotus Notes .nsf databases, and other offline mail stores.
Old mail can restore years of employment, friendship, family, and decisions no longer present in a live inbox.
Documents and scanned paper
PDFs, Word, RTF and text files, spreadsheets, presentations, school records, work feedback, letters, cards, certificates, reports, receipts, programs, and scans.
OCR can make scans searchable while the original image preserves handwriting, layout, stamps, signatures, and context that text extraction may miss.
Photographs, audio, and video
Photographs, screenshots, voice recordings, home and performance video, and available dates, locations, duration, captions, and device details.
Full-archive photo, audio, and video processing remains under development.
Notes and personal records
Handwritten notes, journals, Apple Notes and OneNote exports, calendars, contacts, lists, drafts, diagrams, and mixed notebooks.
A note may mix original thought, copied material, and later annotation. Authorship and certainty stay visible at the smallest practical level.
Recollection and other perspectives
The participant's recollection, later reflection, and, with clear permission, another person's account of a shared event.
Memory belongs even when it cannot be independently proven, labeled as memory rather than converted into fact.
What is working now: The founding proof of concept has processed substantial message, mail, document, scan, OneNote, and mixed-media sources. Coverage varies. Large-scale photo, audio, video, identity, privacy, and cross-source event linking remain under development.

Bring in a source
Start with one question, period, or source. No one needs to hand over an entire life at once.
Make it usable
Extract text, dates, participants, attachments, and metadata when possible, keeping the original distinct from the usable derivative.
Place it carefully
Use an exact date, an estimate, a range, or an unresolved date. Never manufacture precision.
Link without forcing
Connect likely people, events, places, themes, and nearby sources. Leave ambiguous identities open for review.
Review and correct
Correct a date, separate two people, add a recollection, preserve competing perspectives, or leave a question open. Earlier versions remain visible.
Reflect and decide
The Companion surfaces patterns and prepares questions. The participant decides what they mean, what stays private, and what to carry forward or share.
Nothing becomes true simply because software extracted it. Nothing becomes meaningless simply because one remembered detail was wrong.

ONE MOMENT, DIFFERENT KINDS OF KNOWING
A correction can make the record more honest without making the memory worthless.
In Jeffrey's founding proof of concept, he remembered an important creative recording as lasting roughly three hours. File metadata established 1:31:10.552. The duration was wrong, but the same metadata confirmed an unusually long session crossing midnight in the period he remembered.
The record dismissed neither the evidence nor the memory. It corrected the measurable detail and preserved Jeffrey's account of why the moment mattered.

THE COMPANION
It can help you look. It should not tell you what to see.
Most AI conversations answer the immediate question with only the context visible in that moment. The Companion inside JourneyAssist is designed for a longer view.
The founding proof of concept's early Companion is powered by ChatGPT. A participant-facing JourneyAssist Companion is not live. Before any outside pilot uses it, JourneyAssist will identify the model provider, explain what participant-approved context can be sent for processing, state the applicable retention and training-use terms, and make the participant's controls clear.
Using only context and permissions the participant approves, it is designed to gather nearby evidence, notice repetition, name uncertainty, prepare questions, and help the participant put their understanding into words without reducing them to the problem of the day.
Its posture is compassionate, not automatically agreeable. It slows down when a source proves too little and stops when the participant says stop. It cannot replace human relationship or professional care. For some people, a private beginning may make those conversations easier to approach later, with better context.

ONE FOUNDING PROOF OF CONCEPT
Enough fragments to prove the problem is real.
Jeffrey Hunt began with his own life and records because they were available, varied, and difficult enough to expose weak assumptions. The work was first called a life review during that pre-JourneyAssist experience. As the assisted journey grew toward something other people may eventually use, it became JourneyAssist.
The founding record spans a decade-scale message history and decades of mail, workplace records, notes, documents, scans, audio, video, and mixed media. Some sources have been normalized and deduplicated; others remain only partly processed or linked. Its unusual depth is one reference implementation, not a benchmark.
The point is not how many items were collected. It is whether the method can preserve provenance, distinguish overlap from corroboration, keep other people's privacy visible, and help a participant find the one piece that changes the meaning of the larger story.
The proof of concept shows that scattered records can be searched, compared, corrected, and linked into a participant-reviewed timeline. It also exposed the distance between making records searchable and understanding a life.
Deduplication, identity resolution, privacy review, evidence linking, and participant interpretation remain separate stages. A large archive does not become a trustworthy life record merely because it is searchable.
WHAT BECOMES VISIBLE OVER TIME
The most important discoveries were not hidden in the biggest files.
Most of the founding record is private. What can be shared is how different sources changed the reading of an event and how time allowed a fuller view.
The ability was older than the confidence
Writing, leadership, systems thinking, creativity, empathy, and advocacy did not suddenly appear in midlife. School material, published writing, recognition, and work feedback showed the same capacities across decades, sometimes only when conditions allowed them through.
The gifts were always there. They just lived behind a wall of fear.
The record could challenge an old label
The records showed how a childhood label can outlive thin evidence. Capacity, opportunity, attendance, adjustment, and adult judgments no longer collapsed into one story. They made room for a fuller reading of the child.
Other people sometimes saw more than he did
Professional feedback repeatedly described leadership, clarity, creativity, empathy, and difficult problem-solving. Jeffrey’s self-assessment was often smaller. Years later, those documents changed the question from “Did the ability exist?” to “When could he reach it, and what pushed it back?”
Ordinary scraps could reconnect a life
A childhood letter could anchor a remembered home. A farewell card could preserve how coworkers experienced a departure. A ticket could establish a purchase without proving attendance. A short note could matter more than thousands of records. File size is not human significance.
A trustworthy record must hold achievement and failure, memory and evidence, private meaning and competing perspective. The grace is not in making the past prettier. It is in looking again with more present.
A SMALLER PROVING GROUND
KaraokeAssist can exercise some of the mechanics without pretending competition preparation is a life review.
KaraokeAssist has its own immediate job: help invited competitors prepare. Its private record is narrower and less sensitive than a life record. Its encrypted Competitor Vault applies several mechanics JourneyAssist is expected to need: encryption and decryption in the participant's browser, a participant-held key, ciphertext-only continuity storage, and disclosure of only the context needed for a Companion interaction.
After authenticated sign-in, the participant unlocks the vault locally. Sign-in identifies the participant; it does not decrypt the record. Updated private work returns to the encrypted vault rather than becoming a readable TJ-held conversation store.
Those mechanics can be exercised through vault lock and unlock, encrypted sync, versioning, export, deletion, recovery boundaries, and bounded Companion use. They do not address the full JourneyAssist problem: local access to decades of mixed source material, identity resolution, provenance, conflicting perspectives, shared-event privacy, or the sensitivity of a life.
KaraokeAssist is not a JourneyAssist pilot or funnel. It is a useful product in its own right and a smaller architectural proving ground. What it teaches can inform JourneyAssist without claiming that the deeper system is finished.
A PRIVATE WORKING MODEL
Your source files stay where you keep them.
JourneyAssist is envisioned as a local application, not a cloud service or repository for a person's source files. A participant would grant the local app visibility only into the storage locations and material they choose. The design does not call for TJ Carle Jr to receive or retain individual files or a second collection.
Source files and working context are different. A remote encrypted vault would hold only the working context needed for the participant's journey, including dates, relationships between records, permissions, corrections, questions, and personal reflections. That context may be deeply personal.
JourneyAssist is intended to extend the privacy pattern being put into practice first in KaraokeAssist. Encryption and decryption would occur in the participant's local application or browser. The participant would control the usable key. Remote continuity storage would hold ciphertext, not a readable TJ Carle Jr copy.
Authenticated sign-in would identify the participant but would not unlock the vault by itself. After local unlock, only the context needed for the work at hand would enter the local session. Approved source storage and the encrypted context vault would connect directly to the participant's local application, not through a readable collective repository.
Implementation details may change as the product develops. The governing principles should not: local work, narrow permissions, participant control, and no collective repository of a person's private life.
Companion processing is a separate path that remains under design. A participant-facing version may send narrowly selected, participant-approved context to a disclosed model provider only when needed for the requested interaction. Provider, retention, training-use, deletion, and access terms must be stated before outside use. The diagram below describes source storage and working context; it does not claim to show a finished Companion-processing path. KaraokeAssist can exercise parts of that boundary, but it does not settle the provider, consent, recovery, or sensitivity requirements for JourneyAssist.

Private by default. A participant’s full record is not a public profile.
Participant control continues. A person can pause, correct, qualify, or remove private material under the controls available to them.
Source, memory, and interpretation stay attributable. The system should not quietly turn one into another.
Correction does not erase history. Accepted changes preserve prior versions and the reason for the change.
Shared events require care. Another person’s private life is not automatically available because it overlaps the participant’s story.
Permission can be narrow. A participant may approve one small context review without opening the entire private record.
No automatic public or research use. Private participation is not blanket consent for publication, research, training, or commercialization.
Uncertainty is allowed to remain. The system does not need to force closure merely to make the record look complete.
Where the controls stand today: These are the intended operating rules, not a claim that every production control is finished. The founding prototype demonstrates participant review, source lineage, visible conflicts and gaps, recollection capture, conservative identity decisions, correction history, and privacy separation. Production-grade media handling, unified retrieval, backup and recovery, identity resolution at scale, and outside-participant safeguards remain in development.

The founding reconstruction tested the boundaries of the idea; it is one pathway, not the template. A participant might begin with a relationship, transition, repeated pattern, unresolved period, or ability reached later than expected.

WHERE DEVELOPMENT STANDS
The public introduction is live. The participant application is still in development.
The private founding proof of concept is active. It demonstrates whole-life-to-evidence timelines, source lineage, visible conflicts and gaps, attributable recollection, careful identity decisions, correction and version history, and an early Companion.
The participant application is in design and development. Dependable ingestion, retrieval, permission-aware privacy, mature media handling, outside-participant safeguards, and a Companion that stays useful without becoming authoritative remain unfinished.
No public uploads are accepted, no public participant accounts exist, and there is no pilot waitlist. JourneyAssist is not inviting participation. When private piloting is eventually appropriate, it will begin with family and expand carefully from there.
Current development and operating costs are founder-supported. JourneyAssist has no subscription, paid-access, or donation program.

WHERE JOURNEYASSIST FITS
Four roles in one early body of work.
JourneyAssist is the first private participant pathway being developed within the TJ Carle Jr collective. It is intended to remain permanently free and noncommercial.
Sociapitalism is the open working framework beneath the work. TJ is attempting to practice parts of it without owning the idea or claiming that the model has been proven.
KaraokeAssist is a separate permanent noncommercial community gift from TJ Carle Jr and a competition-preparation product. Its first invitation-only competitor-facing Controlled Alpha opens October 1, 2026. Its encrypted Competitor Vault can exercise privacy mechanics that may inform JourneyAssist, but KaraokeAssist is not a JourneyAssist pathway or participant pilot.
These are early applications and experiments, each with its own role and promise. They are not proof that the full model works.

No record can supply every missing answer, make two people remember the same event alike, or turn evidence into meaning without the person who lived it.
